CAVTAT is a nice town and port in the southern part of the Zupa Bay, 20 km southeast of Dubrovnik.The town was already settled in Roman times when it was called Epidaurum. The port of Cavtat is enclosed by two peninsulas: the south-western Sustjepan separates it from the channel, which is enclosed by the Cavtat reefs of Bobara and Mrkan. East of the Rat peninsula is the Tiha bay.
Nowadays Cavtat is a modern cultural and tourist center. It has beautiful rocky, concrete and pebble beaches surrounded by pine trees, wonderful palaces, summer residences and luxurious hotels. The tourist offer includes accommodation in hotels, pensions and apartments. The gastronomic offer is known for excellent traditional dishes. Sports and recreational offer includes tennis courts, gyms, trim trails, saunas and various water sports.
The main cultural event is the Cavtat Summer (July - August), with a number of concerts of harmony-singing groups, folk music groups and sports tournaments (water-polo). The most popular event is the Day of Our Lady of the Snows (5th of August), along with the public holiday commemorating an important date in the recent Croatian history. During the carnival festivities (January and February), the so-called Small Carnival Fiesta is the major event. Cavtat is very well connected with major Croatian cities through Dubrovnik and Cilipi Airport, while local transport with the surroundings includes ship and bus lines. |
