Gocek

GÖCEK is a small town in Fethiye district in the Turkish province of Muğla. It has a population of 4.500. A prominent characteristic of the town is the fact that it harbours islands and coves located in a large and secluded bay. Göcek hosts four significant marinas that serve the yacht tourism in the region.

The climate is typically Mediterranean with long hot summers and mild winters therefore it is an ideal destination throughout the year. According to the legends, it is in the Göcek area that Ikarus felt in the sea after his famous flight, trying to escape from the tower where he was imprisoned.

Göcek would have remained a sleepy Anatolian town if a group of artists and poets, leaded by Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu and Halikarnas`s Fisherman, had not decided to cruise along Turkish Turquoise Coast, in what was later called Blue Voyage. After this trip, the bays and islands near Göcek became famous and even more popular amongst yachtsmen.

The village was then used during the Ottoman period as a harbour for the ships loading chrome ore collected from the mines in the mountains nearby. That area later started operating as Port Göcek. As an environment protecting and providing a high standard service to the yachts and yachts owner it has later been restructured and became a nice and modern marina establishment area. The International airport of Dalaman is located 25km from Göcek.
